Top 5 WordPress Plugins for SEO

When a lot of people try doing their own SEO, they often rely on WordPress plugins to do the work for them. I can start off by telling you, not all plugins are alike, and just because the author of the plugin claims its “SEO friendly” I suggest you do the research before considering it a reliable tool.

Below, I will give you the top 5 plugin that will help you perform proper SEO techniques.

  1. Yoast or All in One SEO Pack– Everyone knows the importance of meta titles, descriptions, and tags. Either one of these plugins make it easy to set your title and description for all of the pages. Additionally, if you want to noindex or nofollow specific pages or posts, it will allow you to do that with a click of a button. One is not better than the other. It all comes down to preference. If you enjoy the layout of All in One, feel free to stick to that one. If you like to be able to control a few more options, go with Yoast.
  2. Google XML Sitemaps and Google XML Sitemap for Videos– These two plugins work hand in hand. If you have youtube videos embedded on your posts or pages, then it will be a good idea to download and install both of these. If you don’t have any videos, then Google XML Sitemaps can function perfectly on its own. Keep in mind that if you are using Yoast, then you do not need to download either of these. Yoast now has a built in XML builder and will often conflict with Google XML Sitemaps if you have both. If I use Yoast on my websites, I tend to disable the Yoast sitemap builder and download Google XML Sitemaps regardless. I simply prefer that specific plugin due to the ease of use and the way it builds the sitemap.
  3. WP Social Sharing– It is very important to make it easy for your readers/visitors to be able to share you page. You can do this in two ways. You can create sidebars on each page with image links to your social profiles, or you can use WP Social Sharing and have your social buttons automatically added to your posts. This will allow your visitors to share and like your content with a simple click of a button.
  4. Schema Creator by Raven– Having schema on your page is becoming increasingly important to provide your users with a better site. Remember, the better your quality, the higher Google and other search engines will rank you. Schema Creator makes it easy to add schema to your pages. Whether you are a restaurant and would like to make your menu easily visible on the search, or your a local plumber wanting to identify your business, Schema Creator makes it so you don’t have to learn the coding language.
  5. Widget Logic– Not a popular plugin by any means, but Widget Logic is a must have on your website. It allows you to control your widgets entirely. This will allow you to show widgets on a few pages, while hiding them on others.

There you have it, the top 5 WordPress plugins to improve your SEO. Again, these are stepping stones to your success. Simply installing these plugins without following Google’s quality guidelines will not get you far.
